Joe Gomez could leave Charlton Athletic for Liverpool if the price is right.

Liverpool formally registered its interest in Gomez with Charlton and could make a transfer bid for the young defender this week, according to the Telegraph, The Press Association and Sky Sports. Liverpool is expected to offer £3.5 million ($5.5 million), but Charlton reportedly hopes to earn double that figure.

Gomez, 18, impressed last season during his debut campaign for the Addicks. Gomez played 24 games in all competitions, spending time at both right back and center back. Gomez also has played for England’s youth national teams at U-16, U-17 and U-19 levels in recent years.

Liverpool scouts and manager Brendan Rodgers tracked Gomez last season and are keen to recruit him to Anfield ahead of the 2015-16 campaign. However, Liverpool isn’t the only club interested in Gomez. Arsenal and Aston Villa also are believed to be monitoring his situation.

Liverpool already has agreed to sign James Milner, Danny Ings and Adam Bogdan. The three will join the Reds on July 1.
