This week is a big one for birthdays in North America.

Four days before the United States celebrates the 239th anniversary of its independence, our friendly neighbor to the north will commemorate its own birthday with Canada Day.

The Boston Red Sox will play a role in the festivities this year, taking on the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre in Wednesday’s matinee contest.

After Canadian hockey legend Don Cherry throws out the ceremonial first pitch, the Jays will take the field donning sharp white jerseys with red trim and red hats.

The Red Sox aren’t going all-out like their American League East foe, but they’ll still pay tribute to Canada with a special arm sleeve patch.

As for the action on the field, Boston will hope to spoil the party by extending its win streak to four games.
