After 10 days of sitting around the Boston Red Sox’s clubhouse, Brian Johnson finally will get his chance to pitch.
Johnson, who was promoted from Triple-A Pawtucket on July 11, is set to make his major league debut Tuesday as the Red Sox open a three-game series against the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park.
The 24-year-old left-hander will do his best to right the ship for a Red Sox team that has lost five in a row, including a humiliating four-game sweep at the hands of the Los Angeles Angels in which they were outscored 22-4.
Brock Holt — Boston’s only All-Star this season — started three of those four games on the bench, but he was reinserted into the starting lineup Tuesday in place of first baseman Mike Napoli. Napoli went 3-for-10 with a double, a walk and an RBI in his three games in Anaheim.
