The Winter Classic is coming back to New England, but this time it will be at a different stadium.
The last time the Boston Bruins hosted the event, in 2010, they won 2-1 in overtime against the Philadelphia Flyers at Fenway Park. Now the Bruins will travel to Foxboro, Mass., where they will host the Montreal Canadiens in the 2016 Winter Classic at Gillette Stadium.
However, no matter where the game is played, the Winter Classic always is a big event.
“There are a number of variables that will form your opinion as to which you would prefer whether it’s a football or baseball stadium,” NESN’s Andy Brickley said on “Bruins Face-Off Live Summer Edition” on Wednesday. “But I think the game in itself — and if it has meaning. If it means something in the standings — not just these two heated, hated rivals — but if the game is meaningful and both teams are playing well, I think that adds to even more drama.”
