Darrelle Revis Irked Patriots Didn’t Allow Mother To Attend Ring Ceremony

The back-and-forth between Darrelle Revis and the New England Patriots seems to be unending.

Back in June, the Patriots told Revis, who signed a five-year, $70 million deal with the New York Jets, that his mother couldn’t attend the team’s ring ceremony at owner Robert Kraft’s house in his stead. The cornerback, who was absent because he had promised his kids a trip to Disney World, told Sports Illustrated recently that his mother’s exclusion didn’t sit well with him.

“If that’s how they want to do things, that’s fine,” Revis said, per ESPN.com. “I’m not going to waste my time on it.”

To be clear, the fact that either side still is commenting on this is dumb. The invitation to the ring ceremony was players-only and non-transferable. Each was allowed to bring only one guest. Yes, the Patriots could have given Revis’ mother his ring at the door, but the cornerback reportedly didn’t tell the team he had planned to send her there until the day before the event, so it’s understandable that they didn’t allow that. The team ended up making arrangements for Revis’ mother to pick up his ring at the Patriots’ offices the next day.

Either way, it looks as though any former team/teammate was fair game in Revis’ SI interview, as he also took a nice shot at former Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez while reflecting on New York’s back-to-back AFC Championship Game appearances.

“We almost made it, and we didn’t have a quarterback,” Revis said, per the New York Daily News, before adding, “Mark was solid. He wasn’t elite.”
