The Boston Red Sox are bringing in reinforcements for their starting rotation.
The Red Sox are calling up Joe Kelly from Triple-A Pawtucket to start Wednesday’s game against the Houston Astros. Kelly had a 5.67 ERA before his demotion, but he has done better in the minors with a 2.84 ERA for the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox.
“Similar stuff; the power is there,” Red Sox manager John Farrell said on “Red Sox First Pitch” before Tuesday night’s game against the Astros. “There’s been — the last time out almost a tale of two performances inside of one game where he was dominant in the first couple of innings, then some foul balls, high pitch counts after that.
“But there’s been more of an effort and emphasis on throwing the ball in to right-handers and using both sides of the plate. So, he’s on the mound tomorrow night.”
