Eduardo Rodriguez wasn’t at his best Monday. In fact, he was probably at his worst.
The 22-year-old left-hander allowed seven runs on eight pitches in the second inning Monday during Game 1 of the Boston Red Sox’s doubleheader against the Los Angeles Angels. Rodriguez last just 1 2/3 innings and struck out zero batters — both career lows.
While the southpaw has struggled with tipping pitches through his first 10 starts in the big leagues, both Rodriguez and Sox manager John Farrell made it very clear that the rookie struggled Monday simply because he wasn’t very effective.
“It wasn’t a matter of tipping anything off today,” Farrell insisted. “That has been rectified.”
