Jon Lester is hitless no more.

The former Boston Red Sox pitcher had been 0-for-66 in his career at the plate, but that changed Monday night. Lester’s Chicago Cubs were facing off against former Red Sox teammate John Lackey and his St. Louis Cardinals.

When Lester dug in for his first at-bat of the game in the second inning, he sent a 1-2 fastball right back at Lackey. The ball caromed off Lackey’s leg and Lester legged out an infield hit.

Adding to the uniqueness of the moment: Dave O’Brien — the Red Sox play-by-play man for WEEI radio broadcasts — was in the booth for his weekly ESPN “Monday Night Baseball” broadcast and called Lester’s first hit.

Lester raised his career average to .015 with the hit.
