Jordan Spieth Almost Fell In Water While Reeling In Tuna — And Shark

Jordan Spieth can’t stop winning.

The golf superstar has been fantastic on the links this season, as he’s already won the Masters and the U.S. Open. Not bad, right? Well apparently his dominance extends off the golf course. Heck, it even extends off of dry land.

Spieth is gearing up for the season’s third major, the Open Championship, by playing in the John Deere Classic this week. At a news conference ahead of the event, Spieth recalled a story about a recent trip to the Bahamas. On a fishing trip, Spieth had a pretty remarkable catch, one that was even more remarkable than he first thought.

“We hooked on a tuna, and I was hooked on a tuna for about 45 minutes to an hour,” Spieth told reporters, according to CBSSports.com. “It was a big tuna, and then these little sharks were coming in trying to get a piece of it, and the captain was scaring them off banging on the boat and on the water, and all of a sudden it just rips back down again. I almost got pulled in. And it was so much heavier, and I was just like, wait, these fish must have seen the sharks and just tried to avoid them.

“So I had the captain had to come in for about five minutes while I took a bathroom break, and I came back, took it back from him, so in total it was two and a half hours, and what surfaced was like a 12-foot long, 300-pound black tip shark that had eaten this tuna and then had hooked itself, so I guess I caught both in one because I got that shark.”

Maybe this is a sign of continued good things to come for Spieth. After all, Greg Norman — a.k.a “The Shark” — picked up his two major wins at the Open Championship, so it’s kind of connected, right?
