Martin St. Louis won’t play for the New York Rangers next season. He actually won’t play for anyone at all next season.

The 16-year NHL veteran announced his retirement Thursday in a statement released by the Rangers.

“I have been blessed to play for 16 years in the NHL; it has been an amazing ride,” St. Louis said. “I have dedicated my life to being the best player I could be and now want to turn more of my focus to my three boys.”

St. Louis began his career with the Calgary Flames in 1998 and spent parts of two seasons with the Flames. He’ll be most remebered for his time with the Tampa Bay Lightning, with whom he won a handful of awards, including the Hart Trophy as the NHL’s MVP in 2004 as well as three Lady Byng awards.

The six-time All-Star also won a Stanley Cup with the Lightning in 2004. He finishes his career with 1,033 points, which is good for 70th all time.
