Matt Bonner Blames New iPhone 6 For Elbow Injury, Shooting Woes

Matt Bonner might need to take a trip to the Apple Store and give them a piece of his mind.

The free agent, who spent the past nine seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, historically has been a good shooter. Last season, however, Bonner saw his field goal and 3-point percentages suffer around 4 and 6 percent drops, respectively. Bonner told the Concord Monitor’s Tim O’Sullivan on Sunday that he hates to make excuses, but a bad case of tennis elbow made it difficult for him to shoot.

And his reason for how he believes he sustained the injury is rather … interesting.

“Everybody is going to find this hilarious, but here’s my theory on how I got it,” Bonner said. “When the new iPhone came out it was way bigger than the last one, and I think because I got that new phone, it was a strain to use it. You have to stretch further to hit the buttons, and I honestly think that’s how I ended up developing it.”

As Android users could probably tell you, a larger phone most likely did not cause the Concord, N.H., native’s tennis elbow. It probably had more to do with the fact that he’s 35 years old and has used his elbows a lot playing professional basketball for 11 years.

Still, maybe Bonner should switch back to the iPhone 5, just in case.
