The New England Patriots’ attempts to convince the NFL to correct false reports before the Wells Report’s release fell on deaf ears.

They published the emails to prove it.
The Patriots updated “The Wells Report In Context” with an email chain between vice president of media relations Stacey James, team counsel Robyn Glaser, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello and league counsel Jeff Pash, who was overseeing the Wells Report.

Glaser asked the NFL to correct ESPN’s report by the end of Feb. 18, 2015, and Pash refused to admit the leaks were coming from the league. Pash also “essentially referred the conversation to Ted, and have said that any disclosures by the league at this time would prompt additional media attention,” in Glaser’s words.
This wasn’t the first or only time the NFL refused to correct false leaked information. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported two days after the AFC Championship Game that 11 of the Patriots’ 12 footballs were two PSI under the required amount. The NFL didn’t correct that information until the Wells Report was released over three months later.
