Pete Rose Makes Gambling Joke When Asked About Hall Of Fame (Video)

Pete Rose was one of the stars of the night Tuesday in Cincinnati, but whether he gets his ultimate baseball prize is still very much uncertain.

The major league’s all-time hits king was one of four team legends honored Tuesday night before the Major League All-Star Game. Rose was given a rousing standing ovation as he walked on to the Great American Ballpark field by some of the same fans who watched him become one of the greatest players to ever play the game.

Of course, Rose’s story is complicated, at the very least. He’s still serving a lifetime ban for betting on baseball as a manager, which is keeping him out of the Hall of Fame. Given a recent ESPN report that Rose also bet on baseball as a player, it’s become more difficult to justify Rose’s inclusion in Cooperstown alongside the all-time greats.

Shortly after the pregame ceremony, Rose spoke with FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal (who was Rose’s colleague for All-Star week) about the night. The conversation eventually turned to Rose’s Hall of Fame chances. That’s where Rose couldn’t help himself and cracked a gambling joke before some borderline bizarre behavior with Rosenthal.
