Philippe Mexes scored a goal good enough to warrant the creation of a new annual award: Goal of the preseason.

Mexes scored a stunning volley for AC Milan on Saturday in its 1-0 win over Inter Milan in the International Champions Cup. Mexes demonstrated perfect technique in scoring perhaps the best goal of the 2015-16 preseason slate of games (at least those involving Europe’s biggest and most prestigious teams).

Mexes, a 33-year-old central defender, scored the game-winner in the 62nd minute, stunning the crowd on hand at Longgang Stadium in Shenzhen, China, as well as those following the action back in Italy, Europe and just about everywhere else in the soccer world.

Watch Mexes’ goal from any and every possible angle. Here are just a few.

No award for preseason strikes currently exists (at least not one that’s widely recognized), but strikes like Mexes’ suggest it might be time to invent one.
