Red Sox-White Sox Odds: Boston’s Offensive Awakening Portends Success

The dormant Red Sox bats finally came to life Sunday night, tallying 20 hits in an 11-1 destruction of the Tigers. The win marked the first time Boston has recorded more than four runs since its return from the All-Star break, ending a stretch of nine games in which it scored just 16 total runs.

Despite that success against Detroit, Boston still trails by a wide margin in the American League East, entering Monday’s White Sox vs. Red Sox betting matchup at Fenway Park a full 12 games back of the New York Yankees in the division standings.

This week’s four-game series marks the first meeting of the season between the Red Sox and White Sox. The teams split four games at Fenway last season after Boston took two of three in Chicago, moving the Red Sox to a solid 8-3 in their last 11 meetings, according to the OddsShark MLB Database.

The Red Sox face a White Sox squad that arrives in Boston following a four-game sweep of the Indians in Cleveland. However, Chicago’s current win streak follows a 1-6 stretch that has all but eliminated them from playoff contention.

Overall, it has been a disappointing season for the White Sox, who owned strong 16/1 World Series odds at the online sportsbooks ahead of the start of the season. A lack of consistency leaves them with a 46-50 record entering this week’s action, 12 1/2 games back of the Kansas City Royals in the AL Central and a distant 66/1 on the MLB futures.

Bolstered by the addition of starter Johnny Cueto, picked up from the Cincinnati Reds this weekend in exchange for three pitching prospects, the Royals continue to top the World Series betting odds, pegged as 6/1 favorites. The Red Sox, meanwhile, continue their tumble down the World Series odds, falling to 50/1 after opening July at just 28/1.
