Report: Jonny Gomes Among Three Atlanta Braves Who Could Be On Trade Market

The Atlanta Braves have been the face of mediocrity this season, and it sounds as though they could be sellers leading into the MLB trade deadline.

FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal wrote Thursday that Atlanta could look to deal a trio of players: outfielder Jonny Gomes, closer Jason Grilli and third baseman Chris Johnson.

Gomes’ move to Atlanta hasn’t gone as planned for the veteran outfielder. He’s hitting just .202 — .262 against left-handed pitching — and has been a virtual non-factor for a Braves team that enters play Friday five games back in both the National League East and the NL wild card.

However, if a team believes Gomes still can produce at a little bit higher clip than he has in Atlanta, he could prove to be a valuable pickup — for the right price. He’s regarded as a very good guy to have in the clubhouse, and although unconventional, his defense isn’t horrible.

Grilli also figures to be an intriguing option for any teams looking to bolster the back end of the bullpen. The former Pittsburgh Pirates closer has 24 saves this season, allowing just 27 hits in 33 2/3 innings while also striking out 45 batters.
