ORIGINAL STORY: Buffalo Sabres fans won’t have to wait to watch Jack Eichel play in the NHL.

The No. 2 pick in the 2015 NHL Draft will leave Boston University after only one season to sign an entry-level contract with the Sabres, WEEI.com’s Scott McLaughlin reported Wednesday, citing a source.

Eichel, who won the Hobey Baker Award last season, was one of a record 23 current or future Hockey East players selected in this year’s draft.

The Sabres should have a fantastic 1-2 punch at center next season with Eichel and newly acquired Ryan O’Reilly in the fold.
