The New England Patriots have been looking to add cornerback depth, and they reportedly did so Thursday.

The Patriots agreed to a contract with free-agent cornerback Tarell Brown, according to reports. ESPN’s Dianna Marie Russini was the first to report the news.

This signing isn’t out of the blue. The Patriots reportedly had Brown in for two visits — one in March and another in May.

Brown, an eight-year NFL veteran, played with the Oakland Raiders last year after spending his first seven seasons in San Francisco. Brown appeared in 14 games for the Raiders, starting in all of them, and registered a career-low four passes defensed. For the second consecutive season, Brown wasn’t able to record an interception, but he does have 11 career picks.

Brown’s best season came in 2011 when he started all 16 games for the 49ers. He tallied four interceptions and defended 16 passes that year.
