Reports: Raheem Sterling In Rebellion, Tells LFC He Wants Out Of Preseason Tour

The relationship between Raheem Sterling and Liverpool F.C. is reaching a breaking point.

Sterling told Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers on Monday he doesn’t want to join the Reds for this month’s preseason tour, according to the Liverpool Echo, The Telegraph, The Mail and The Mirror. Sterling’s apparent rebellion comes as Manchester City reportedly considers launching a third transfer bid for the wantaway forward’s services.

Sterling reported to Liverpool’s practice facility Monday for the first day of preseason training, but his ongoing saga took another twist the next day when he dropped the bombshell during a discussion with Rodgers.

Liverpool is scheduled to fly to Thailand on Sunday for an exhibition against the Thai All-Stars. The Reds then will head to Australia and Malaysia during the two-week preseason tour.

Liverpool is aware of Sterling’s stance but still expects the 20-year-old to travel with the group. Liverpool could discipline Sterling if he refuses to board the plane Sunday.

Sterling also is refusing to sign a new contract with Liverpool — his current deal expires in 2017 — because he apparently wants to leave the club. Liverpool claims it doesn’t want to sell Sterling, but Manchester City could convince the Reds to part ways with him if it meets their £50 million ($77 million) asking price.

Stay tuned for the next twist in the tale of Sterling’s year of acrimony with Liverpool.
