Rick Porcello’s first season with the Boston Red Sox did not get off to a good start.

Entering Wednesday night’s game, Porcello had a 5-10 record with a 5.51 ERA in 19 starts. However, he has pitched better in his last three starts, including a seven-inning outing against the Detroit Tigers his last time on the mound.

“Now it has not been a good season for Porcello,” NESN’s Jerry Remy said on “Red Sox Gameday Live” before the Red Sox hosted the Chicago White Sox at Fenway Park. “He knows that. And what he is trying to do now is correct it, and over the last couple of starts, he has done that.

“There’s nothing worse than going through a season like he had coming onto a new ballclub and not pitching well at the beginning of the season. But he’s trying to put a strong finish on.”
