The Boston Red Sox have been in a bit of a sticky situation behind the plate the season.

Youngster and defensive wizard Christian Vazquez, set to be the team’s full-time starter behind the dish, tore ligaments in his elbow in mid-March that ultimately required Tommy John surgery and thrust veteran backstop Ryan Hanigan behind the plate as a starter.

When Hanigan was lost to the disabled list a month into the season with a broken knuckle, though, no one could have predicted the immense effect his absence┬áseemed to have on the team’s already-struggling pitching staff.

NESN’s Don Orsillo and Jerry Remy discuss the impact Hanigan has had on struggling Rick Porcello this season and why Hanigan could be the key for Porcello’s return to form. Check it all out in the video above.
