The Boston Red Sox traded outfielder Shane Victorino to the Los Angeles Angels on Monday, and the 34-year-old took the news pretty hard.
Victorino, a playoff hero for Boston in its 2013 World Series run, spoke with the media Monday night before leaving Fenway Park and was sure to thank ownership, his coaches and teammates for everything along the way.
Specifically, Victorino was very grateful the Red Sox were willing to give him a chance after a dismal 2012 season in which the switch-hitter faltered down the stretch following a trade to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Victorino recorded the game-winning RBI in each of the Red Sox’s clinching games in the 2013 postseason, becoming the only player in history to do so.
