BOSTON — Steven Wright’s back-and-forth season continues.
The Red Sox recalled Wright from Triple-A Pawtucket before Saturday’s game against the Houston Astros at Fenway Park. Boston optioned Noe Ramirez to Pawtucket to make room on the active roster.
Wright remains a valuable asset to the Red Sox, as the club can call upon the right-hander whenever it needs a fresh arm. The 30-year-old knuckleballer started Wednesday for the PawSox, but he’s available out of Boston’s bullpen Saturday.
Wright is capable of starting or pitching in relief. He returns to the Red Sox with a 3-2 record and a 4.15 ERA in 11 appearances (four starts) at the major league level this season. The Red Sox recently sent Wright back to Pawtucket upon activating Justin Masterson from the 15-day disabled list.
Ramirez was selected to the active roster before Friday’s game. The 25-year-old right-hander suffered the loss in Boston’s series opener against Houston. He allowed four runs (two earned) in the 10th inning of the Red Sox’s 12-8 defeat.
