The No. 45 never again will be worn by a member of the Boston Red Sox.

Pedro Martinez, who was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday, had his number retired by the Red Sox before Tuesday’s 9-4 loss to the Chicago White Sox at Fenway Park.

During the ceremony, Martinez took time to thank his former Boston teammates, many of whom returned to Fenway Park on Tuesday.

One of those teammates was NESN’s Tim Wakefield, who spoke about the moment on “Red Sox Final” after the game.

“Nobody has more fun than Pedro,” Wakefield said. “What a special night for everyone to enjoy that and say thanks to him. … He’s got such a big heart, and he’s just a tremendous guy.”
