Tom Brady is doing his best to keep quiet while he awaits the NFL’s ruling on Deflategate. But he couldn’t pass up the opportunity to pay tribute to one of his loyal protectors.

The New England Patriots quarterback broke a long Facebook silence Saturday morning to give a shout-out to longtime Patriots offensive lineman Dan Connolly, who announced his retirement Thursday.

As he usually does, Brady nailed it.

As many Patriots fans will recall, one of Connolly’s most memorable moments with the Pats came in a 2010 game against the Green Bay Packers, in which he scooped up a squib kick and returned it 71 yards to set up a New England touchdown.

Outside that flash of brilliance, Connolly was a stalwart on Brady’s offensive line, so it’s no wonder the Patriots QB showed him some love.

Brady, 37, is five years Connolly’s senior, but it doesn’t appear he’s ready to ride off into the sunset anytime soon.
