Even though golf’s Grand Slam is out of reach for Jordan Spieth at the PGA Championship this week, he still can make history.

If Spieth wins at Whistling Straits Golf Course, he would become the first player to claim all three American majors in the same year. He also would be the third player to win three majors in a year, joining Tiger Woods (2000) and Ben Hogan (1953). Spieth’s quest for the Wanamaker Trophy begins Thursday at 2:20 p.m. ET.

However, there are plenty of other storylines, including Dustin Johnson and his return to Sheboygan, Wis. Johnson had a one-stroke lead heading into the final hole of the 2010 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits, but he famously grounded his club in a bunker on the 18th hole. That mistake cost him a chance at competing in a playoff, which Martin Kaymer ultimately won. Johnson will try to put that in the past when he tees off Thursday at 9:05 a.m. ET alongside Jason Day and Rickie Fowler.

Don’t forget the world’s No. 1 golfer, Rory McIlroy. He had been sidelined since the U.S. Open with an ankle injury, but he is set to make his triumphant return this weekend. He is paired with Spieth and British Open winner Zach Johnson for the first two rounds. The No. 1 ranking also is up for grabs between McIlroy and Spieth.

Here’s everything you need to know for the first round at Whistling Straits.
