The trade that brought Isaiah Thomas to the Boston Celtics was one of the best in-season moves of 2014-15, and the guard again wants to give his relatively new team a fighting chance in the Eastern Conference.

That’s probably why a recent offseason workout included a run with undefeated boxing champion Floyd Mayweather.

This actually shouldn’t be a surprise, considering Thomas and Mayweather are “close” friends.

That’s them together at Game 5 of the 2015 NBA Finals, one month after Thomas supported Mayweather during his fight against Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather also gave Thomas a new Bentley for his birthday in February.

The Celtics open up the 2015-16 regular season Oct. 28 against the Philadelphia 76ers at TD Garden. Mayweather’s next fight is Sept. 12 versus Andre Berto, so Thomas might be able to attend.
