CC Sabathia made no attempt to harness his emotions.

Sabathia struck out David Ortiz with the bases loaded in the fifth inning of Thursday’s rubber match between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium. The strikeout kept the game tied 1-1 and ultimately paved the way for a 2-1 Yankees win. Sabathia was fired up.

It was an interesting night for Sabathia, who fanned eight over six solid innings of one-run ball. The 35-year-old left-hander also had a run-in with home plate umpire Rob Drake early in the contest, though cooler heads prevailed.

Sabathia didn’t earn the win, as Eduardo Rodriguez pitched well for Boston until Jacoby Ellsbury homered in the seventh inning. But whiffing Ortiz in a key spot definitely proved huge.

Ortiz surprisingly is 0-for-8 with three strikeouts with the bases loaded this season. That said, the nine-time All-Star usually feasts at Yankee Stadium, so one can understand Sabathia’s excitement.
