Athletes representing their home countries in international play always carry a risk for injury, and that’s exactly what happened Sunday to Boston Celtics center Kelly Olynyk.

Olynyk was playing for his native Canada in the Tuto Marchand Cup when he became tangled up with an Argentinian player and went down in a heap with an apparent left knee injury.

The 24-year-old limped off the court and down the tunnel but quickly returned to the bench, according to Ryan Wolstat of the Toronto Sun. Olynyk sat out the rest of the game, and the Canadian team did not offer an update on his condition, but reports from TSN’s Josh Lewenberg seemed to indicate the injury was minor.

Olynyk is entering his third season with the Celtics, having averaged 10.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game last season as an NBA sophomore. He missed 18 games in February and early March with a severely sprained ankle.

The 7-footer played a total of 15 minutes Sunday, scoring eight points and grabbing three rebounds as Canada won 85-80.
