Christian Benteke is off the mark.

Benteke scored his first-ever goal for Liverpool on Monday in the Reds’ Premier League game against Bournemouth. Liverpool fans didn’t have to wait long to celebrate with the Belgian striker, as he hit pay dirt in the first half of his first home game with Liverpool.

Benteke opened the scoring in the 26th minute when he tapped in Jordan Henderson’s cross from close range.

Benteke’s first goal for Liverpool was controversial, as Philippe Coutinho made a play on the ball from an offside position. Neither the referee nor his assistant judged Coutinho to be offside.

Benteke, 24, joined Liverpool from Aston Villa this summer in a transfer worth a reported £32.5 million ($50.6 million). Benteke impressed in practice and in his lone preseason outing for the Reds, but he failed to score in his first competitive game as a Liverpool player — last weekend’s win over Stoke City. The transfer and the goal-less game didn’t stop Benteke’s hot streak.

Benteke must have been saving that first goal for the Anfield faithful, who have seen him score there in previous games for Aston Villa.
