David Ortiz is on a roll right now.

The Boston Red Sox designated hitter is in the midst of an 11-game hit streak in which he’s batted .500 with five home runs and 15 RBIs, lifting his career home run total to 492. If he continues to hit well down the stretch, he could reach 500 career home runs by this season.

“The fact is right now he’s on target,” NESN’s Jerry Remy said Thursday on “Red Sox Gameday Live” before Boston hosted the Kansas City Royals. “Even his outs that he’s making he’s swinging the bat very well and making good, solid contact. He’s in a groove right now.

“Can he get eight more (home runs) this year? We’ll see.”
