Noah Syndergaard went 5 2/3 innings without allowing a run Sunday afternoon. That changed in a hurry when David Ortiz stepped to the plate.

Ortiz sent a 97-mph Syndergaard fastball screaming off the second deck at Citi Field for a two-run homer.

The home run was the 494th of Ortiz’s career. He now sits all alone in 27th on the all-time home runs list and needs six over the next 32 games in order to reach the 500-homer plateau this season.

Ortiz’s longball gave the Boston Red Sox their first lead of the ballgame, but it ultimately came in a losing effort. The New York Mets rallied late to earn a 5-4 win and prevent a three-game series sweep.
