It didn’t take long for Dez Bryant find controversy at Dallas Cowboys training camp.

Camp is just a few days old, but the ‘Boys had their first on-field tussle Sunday, with the passionate wide receiver right in the middle of things. Bryant and cornerback Tyler Patmon had to be separated after exchanging wild punches during drills.

The two players got tangled up at the end of a play and then started throwing some big punches at each other before teammates intervened to break up the two.

For Cowboys fans worried there might be tension already, there’s no need to fret. Both players chalked it up to being a little over-competitive, but they hugged it out afterwards and both players downplayed the situation.

“It’s just brothers. Brothers fight and that happens sometimes,” Patmon told reporters, according to the team’s website. “We go at it and we squash it and it’s over.”

Bryant also agreed it was nothing more.

“It’s two great competitors, man,” he explained. “We’re going back and forth. If you had seen the play before, I was giving him a little bit of mouth. Me and him get talking a whole bunch of stuff to him. He was talking back to me and it just escalated over to the next play. That’s what happened. At the end of the day, you seen us. We shook hands, we hugged and we respect one another.”

Regardless, the Cowboys probably aren’t thrilled to see Bryant — the guy they gave a new $70 million contract to — throwing (and taking) punches during practice. Then again, it’s that same sort of fire that makes Bryant one of the best receivers in the NFL.
