EA Sports cut ties with Patrick Kane on Wednesday amid the reported rape investigation surrounding the Chicago Blackhawks star.

The video game company released a statement Wednesday indicating Kane no longer will be a spokesperson for “NHL 16” and will be pulled from the game’s cover.

“In light of the ongoing investigation involving Patrick Kane, he will no longer be a spokesperson for the launch of EA Sports NHL 16,” EA Sports’ statement read. “He will not appear on the EA SPORTS NHL 16 cover nor particupate in other EA SPORTS NHL 16 promotional activities.”

Kane originally was on the cover alongside Blackhawks teammate Jonathan Toews. EA Sports NHL’s Twitter background already reflects the change.

NHL 16Kane currently is under investigation in Hamburg, N.Y., where police confirmed the probe last week but have been tight-lipped on what it’s for. However, The Buffalo News reported Kane is being investigated for an alleged rape.

Both the NHL and Blackhawks have been quiet on the matter, other than to say they’re aware of the investigation.
