The good news for Geno Smith is he was able to toss the football around shortly after having jaw surgery. The bad news, though, is that’s a no-no for now in his employer’s eyes.

The Jets quarterback was spotted by the New York Post doing some throwing with a friend just two days removed from jaw surgery. Smith underwent that surgery after being punched in the locker room by now-former Jets linebacker IK Enemkpali.

“I feel great. You see me throwin’, right?” Smith told the Post, also saying, “Get ready for me to come back.”

Well, not only did the Post see Smith throwing, but so did the Jets — and they weren’t very happy.

“He shouldn’t be doing that right now,” head coach Todd Bowles stated while talking to reporters Sunday, per NJ.com. “We handled that internally. We had that discussion.”

However, Bowles indicated Smith wouldn’t be disciplined. The Jets, the coach said, are just trying to follow doctors’ orders.

“He just got surgery; you don’t want him getting infected,” Bowles continued. “(The doctors) said he couldn’t do anything physical, so I’m going tby the rules of what they did.”

The original diagnosis was Smith would miss six to 10 weeks with the jaw injury.
