Jon Lester and pickoff throws do not get along.

Lester has a history when it comes to throwing over to first base, and it’s not a good one. The Chicago Cubs left-hander attempted his first pickoff throw in two years back in April, and it didn’t go so well.

Maybe that’s why Lester didn’t attempt another throw to first until Thursday. And just like his last attempt, it ended in disaster.

The error didn’t cost Lester, though, as he pitched six innings and earned the victory in the Cubs’ 9-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. However, pickoff throws still are Lester’s kryptonite.
