The Kings terminated the remainder of Richards’ 12-year, $69 million contract on June 29, citing a “material breach.” The NHLPA filed a grievance on his behalf shortly after.

Richards has spent the last four seasons with the Kings and was a part of their Stanley Cup championship teams in 2011-12 and 2013-14. He tallied 16 points (five goals, 11 assists) in 53 games last season.
