You know it’s your year when plays like this happen.

The New York Mets have made an unlikely ascent into first place in the National League East thanks to their pitching. But it was the defense that stole the show in their matchup against the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday.

With the game tied in extra innings, the Phillies’ Jeff Francoeur hit a hard ground ball up the middle, which looked like a sure base hit. But Mets pitcher Carlos Torres had another idea. He kicked the ball toward teammate Daniel Murphy at first base and ran as fast as he could. Murphy then flipped the ball back to Torres, who got to first base just in time to beat Francoeur. It’s the sort of play you need to see to believe.

That’s probably going to be on the highlight reels Friday morning.
