Tony Stewart was nowhere near Pocono Raceway on Sunday, when IndyCar driver Justin Wilson suffered a serious head injury in an on-track incident. But the three-time NASCAR champion still found a way to make his presence known in Long Pond, Pa.
With Wilson airlifted to Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, Pa., Stewart donated his private plane to Wilson’s family, according to several tweets by IndyCar drivers. Wilson was listed in critical condition and was in a coma after he was struck in the head by debris from a crash involving Sage Karam.

Stewart has been around unfortunate incidents on the racetrack himself. His car struck and killed Kevin Ward, 20, who had left his car and walked onto the track during a sprint car race (not associated with the NASCAR Sprint Cup series) last year. A grand jury did not charge Stewart with criminal charges, but Ward’s family has filed a wrongful death suit against the NASCAR star.
In Ward’s case, Stewart’s involvement was complicated. But in Wilson’s case, it sounds like there’s nothing complicated about it.
