Patriots’ Brandon Gibson Impresses Vs. Saints Before Injuring Knee

Through three weeks of training camp practices and two preseason games, one New England Patriots receiver has stood out as the most consistent of the bunch.

Veteran wideout Brandon Gibson was putting together an impressive summer before leaving the Patriots’ 26-24 preseason win over the New Orleans Saints with four minutes remaining in the game. Gibson caught a 3-yard pass from quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo over the middle of the field, setting up a field goal, and took a shot to the knee from cornerback Travis Manning.

Gibson limped off the field and onto the sideline before leaving for the locker room. He told reporters he had an X-ray on his left knee and that he’d have to talk to trainers when the results come in, according to the Providence Journal’s Mark Daniels.

Daniels quoted Gibson as saying, “I’m alright. I think so.”

Gibson had eight catches on nine targets for 68 yards in the Patriots’ preseason win. He looked to have an inside track for one of the Patriots’ two possible reserve wide receiver roster spots after a solid summer. Among his competition, Aaron Dobson and Brian Tyms are dealing with injuries, and Josh Boyce struggled in the Patriots’ first preseason game. Undrafted rookie wideout Chris Harper also had stood out in preseason performances.
