Jake Bequette’s conversion into a pass-catcher will be put on hold for the 2015 season.

The New England Patriots placed Bequette on injured reserve Friday after he cleared waivers. The Patriots waived/injured the 2012 third-round draft pick Thursday.

Bequette, who was drafted as a defensive end, starting making the transition to tight end last season while on the practice squad. His new position became official this offseason when he began working with the offense during organized team activities and minicamp and changed his number from 92 to 85.

Bequette’s season is over, unless the Patriots release him with an injury settlement.

Bequette spent the entire 2014 season on the practice squad. He played in just eight games in 2012 and 2013 after being drafted out of Arkansas.
