President Barack Obama Says Derek Jeter Once Hustled Him In Golf

by

Derek Jeter is presumably good at a lot of things, including golf. Unfortunately, no one told the president of the United States about that.

President Obama on Monday was in Las Vegas, where he spoke at a fundraiser at the home of Las Vegas Sun owner Brian Greenspun. While speaking, Obama recalled a previous trip to Vegas in which he hung out with Greenspun and New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter.

The three played golf, and it didn’t turn out very well for the commander in chief.

“(Greenspun) and Derek Jeter stole money from me at Shadow Creek,” Obama recalled, per Politico. “It was clearly a setup, because when we got to the practice range, he was shanking balls everywhere. I said, ‘You play golf, Derek?’ And he said, ‘I just started two weeks ago.'”

Obama said Jeter was given 30 strokes, which was a bad idea, as Jeter promptly steam-rolled the president on the links.

“We had to take a picture of me handing Derek Jeter money at the end of the game,” Obama continued. “Despite that, Brian is a great friend.”

Then again, maybe it’s not entirely surprising Obama came out on the losing side of things. He doesn’t exactly have the most impressive of golf swings.

Of course, we’ll give him a pass seeing as how he runs the country and all of that.
