Rays Rookie Gets Silent Treatment; Celebrates HR With Imaginary Teammates

Richie Shaffer and his family had the night of a lifetime Tuesday night in Chicago.

The Tampa Bay Rays rookie collected his first major league hit in a big way, homering to right field in the seventh inning as part of the Rays’ blowout win over the White Sox.

The home run was also the first hit of Shaffer’s career. Making the moment even better, his family was in town to see him collect his first big league knock.

As Shaffer’s family wildly celebrated while he rounded the bases, his teammates had other ideas. Shaffer returned to the dugout to find the rest of the club giving him a variaton of the silent treatment. The Rays came together in the middle of the dugout to huddle as Shaffer walked down the steps. Shaffer even did his part, celebrating with imaginary teammates.

But as he walked by the huddle, the club swallowed him up and the party began.
