The New England Patriots reportedly are showing interest in one of the NFL’s best receivers of the last decade-and-a-half.

Former Indianapolis Colts wideout Reggie Wayne is taking a physical with the Patriots on Sunday, league sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Wayne remains a free agent after seeing his role diminish last season with the Colts. He caught 64 passes for 779 yards with two touchdowns in 15 games.

Wayne leads active receivers in career receptions (1,070) and yards (14,345). He has played his entire 14-year career with Colts.

Patriots receivers have been plagued by injuries this summer. Aaron Dobson, Julian Edelman, Brian Tyms and Brandon LaFell currently are dealing with various ailments. Veteran Brandon Gibson suffered a left knee injury Saturday night against the New Orleans Saints.

The Patriots currently are left with Danny Amendola, Josh Boyce, Zach D’Orazio, Chris Harper, Jonthan Krause and Matthew Slater as their only healthy wideouts.
