Report: Revolution Tab Goldman Sachs To Help Build Boston Soccer Stadium

The New England Revolution are bringing in the heavy hitters to advance its search for a stadium in Boston, Mass.

The Revolution have enlisted investment bank Goldman Sachs to help secure land and financing for a proposed soccer stadium in Boston, Boston.com’s Adam Vaccaro reported Wednesday. Representatives of the Kraft family, owners of the Revolution, met with members of Boston Mayor Marty Walsh’s staff in July, and Goldman Sachs helped the Kraft group prepare documents for the meeting. The report also cites documents provided to Boston.com through a public records request in claiming Goldman Sachs intends to serve “as underwriter on a future transaction” related to the stadium.

Goldman Sachs has helped teams around the U.S. and in Europe build new stadiums and arenas in recent years.

The Boston Globe in November 2014 reported the Revolution had identified a site in South Boston just to the east of I-93 as a potential location for the stadium. Talks with Boston officials are ongoing, and neither the Krafts nor the city was willing to comment on the documents Goldman Sachs prepared.

The Revolution currently play home games at 68,756-seat Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. The MLS club has been working to build a soccer stadium closer to Boston since at least 2006. The Krafts previously have spoken with nearby cities Revere and Somerville, but those talks ultimately haven’t borne fruit.
