UPDATE (4:45 p.m. ET): Buffalo Bills coach Rex Ryan confirmed Monday that Tyrod Taylor will be the team’s starting quarterback.

ORIGINAL STORY: Tyrod Taylor has beat out E.J. Manuel and Matt Cassell for the Buffalo Bills’ starting quarterback job, FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer reported Monday.

The Bills will open the regular season Sept. 13 against the Indianapolis Colts.

Taylor, 26, is entering his fifth NFL season. He spent the first four years of his career with the Baltimore Ravens, with whom he played 14 games (zero starts) and threw for 199 yards with zero touchdowns and two interceptions.

Taylor is 24-of-33 passing for 236 yards with zero touchdowns and no interceptions in three preseason games for the Bills. He’s also able to make an impact in the running game, as evidenced by his 108 yards on 11 carries in those games.

The Bills also released longtime running back Fred Jackson on Monday.
