There are ninja slides, and then there’s what Kendrys Morales did Friday night.

The Kansas City Royals designated hitter took deception to a whole different level in the first inning of his team’s road contest against the Toronto Blue Jays. After Ben Zobrist slapped a grounder through the right side, Morales tried to score from second base, and a strong throw from right fielder Jose Bautista appeared to have him dead in the water at home plate.

That’s when the wily old vet pulled out a trick for the ages.

Poor Russell Martin.

As you can see, the Blue Jays catcher never actually tagged Morales, making his amazing effort all the more impressive considering, well, these circumstances.

Morales’ wizardy gave the Royals the lead at the time, but Toronto would get the last laugh, as Josh Donaldson’s single in the 11th inning gave the Jays a walk-off 7-6 win.
