WWE’s Seth Rollins Rips Red Sox But Likes Bill Belichick’s Patriots

WWE superstar Seth Rollins never shuts up. He even has a T-shirt to prove it.

So when Rollins was asked several sports questions by “SI Now” host Maggie Gray this week leading up to World Wrestling Entertainment’s “SummerSlam” event, the world heavyweight champion didn’t pull any punches.

Rollins’ comments will be of particular interest to New England sports fans. While he had some not-so-nice things to say about the Boston Red Sox, he admitted he does like Bill Belichick and the Patriots.

“They’re still living in the past,” Rollins said of the Red Sox. “They got out of shadow of the curse, of The Babe. They’re still hanging on by a thread. Although I will give David Ortiz some credit, he’s having a phenomenal year this year, but maybe past their prime. I think it’s time to start looking to some of the youth.”

Gray likened Rollins’ style to that of Belichick and the Patriots — probably something New England doesn’t want to hear — and the self-proclaimed “architect of The Shield” and “future of the WWE” seemed OK with the comparison. After all, Rollins and the Patriots both are champions.

“Belichick’s actually great. I wouldn’t mind being the New England Patriots,” Rollins told Gray. “They seem to win a lot. Four-game suspension here and there doesn’t hurt nobody.”

Four games for now, Seth. We all know quarterback Tom Brady’s still fighting the NFL on that one.

Rollins’ remarks — he also ripped the Dallas Cowboys and owner Jerry Jones, by the way — come just days before he’s scheduled to defend his title against John Cena, who happens to be a native of West Newbury, Mass. Perhaps Cena will exact some revenge in honor of the Sox.
