Junior Seau’s Daughter Sydney Honors Him During Hall Of Fame Induction (Video)

Sydney Seau honored her father, the late Junior Seau, with a moving tribute at his Pro Football Hall of Fame induction.

Sydney started off the tribute to her father when she spoke in a video package. She then got the chance to honor her father further when she was interviewed on stage.

“This isn’t my speech to give,” Seau said during the interview. “He spent 20 years in the league, and he deserves this moment. All I can do is humbly attempt to thank the people within his life and career that made this induction possible.”

On behalf of her father, she thanked the San Diego Chargers and their fans and mentioned how he is the first Polynesian and Samoan to make it into the Hall of Fame.

There was a controversy surrounding the ceremony because of the Hall of Fame’s policy allowing only video presentations for posthumous inductions. Eventually, the Hall of Fame decided to allow Sydney to honor her father on stage in an interview.

Even though she didn’t get the chance to give her full speech at the induction ceremony, she gave The New York Times a preview of what she would have said.

Seau played linebacker in the NFL for 20 seasons, including a stretch from 2006 to 2009 with the New England Patriots. He committed suicide at the age of 43 and was later diagnosed with CTE.
