Tigers Pitcher Daniel Norris Homers Off Jon Lester In His First MLB At-Bat (Video)

It’s not very often American League pitchers hit home runs, but what Daniel Norris did Wednesday was even more peculiar.

The Detroit Tigers rookie pitcher smacked a homer off Jon Lester in his very first major league at-bat during their matchup with the Cubs in Chicago. Norris became the first pitcher hit a home run in his first at-bat since Tommy Milone in 2011 and the first AL pitcher to homer at Wrigley field — ever.

And if Norris’ name sounds familiar, that’s because he gained some attention this spring after an ESPN profile revealed the 22-year-old chooses to live in a van during the offseason.

However, it wasn’t all good news for Norris. The left-hander tweaked his oblique during the fifth inning and landed himself on the 15-day disabled list. The Tigers did go on to win 15-8, though.
